{"id":61,"date":"2017-02-15T23:16:58","date_gmt":"2017-02-15T23:16:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cliffnordman.com\/blog\/?p=61"},"modified":"2019-02-26T11:32:25","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T11:32:25","slug":"triali-the-three-armed-scarecrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cliffnordman.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/15\/triali-the-three-armed-scarecrow\/","title":{"rendered":"Triali the three-armed scarecrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-62\" src=\"http:\/\/cliffnordman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/variance.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cliffnordman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/variance.jpg 640w, https:\/\/cliffnordman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/variance-300x223.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Triali&#8217;s not an effective character.\u00a0 Her average damage is the same as a fighter with a greatsword and <a href=\"http:\/\/paizo.com\/pathfinderRPG\/prd\/coreRulebook\/feats.html#power-attack\">Power Attack<\/a> + <a href=\"http:\/\/paizo.com\/pathfinderRPG\/prd\/advancedPlayersGuide\/advancedFeats.html#furious-focus\">Furious Focus<\/a>.\u00a0 That fighter also get heavy armor and seven feats to spare.\u00a0 Worse, Triali&#8217;s damage is unpredictable, as seen in the graph above.\u00a0 Maybe those huge damage spikes instantly kill a boss, or maybe they overkill some mooks.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what makes her exciting to play, watching the pieces interact and waiting for the explosion!<\/p>\n<p>The center of the build is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.d20pfsrd.com\/feats\/general-feats\/butterfly-s-sting-critical\/\">Butterfly&#8217;s Sting<\/a>, which allows a character to pass a critical hit to an ally.\u00a0 So one character uses a weapon (or dual-wields two weapons) that has a high crit range to maximize the number of critical hits, and another uses a two-handed weapon with a high critical multiplier, to maximize the damage of those critical hits.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the twist: a character counts as her own ally, and with a <a href=\"http:\/\/paizo.com\/pathfinderRPG\/prd\/ultimateMagic\/spellcastingClassOptions\/alchemist.html#vestigial-arm\">third arm<\/a> from an Alchemist discovery she can wield both a kukri (which crits often) and a scythe, (which crits really hard).<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s a Ranger so she can focus on Strength and get Two-Weapon Fighting feats through her combat style without meeting the Dexterity Requirements.\u00a0 That also means she gets an animal companion.\u00a0 Since she carries a scythe, I gave her a big raven and a scarecrow aesthetic.\u00a0 She does the samurai thing of shrugging off one shoulder of her jacket when preparing to fight, not just to give her left arm freedom of movement, but also to reveal her other left arm!<\/p>\n<p>In the future she&#8217;ll get <a href=\"http:\/\/paizo.com\/pathfinderRPG\/prd\/coreRulebook\/feats.html#power-attack\">Power Attack<\/a>, to make her hits bigger and less predictable.\u00a0 She&#8217;ll enchant the kukri with <a href=\"http:\/\/paizo.com\/pathfinderRPG\/prd\/coreRulebook\/magicItems\/weapons.html#weapons-keen\">keen<\/a>, so it crits more often, and add <a href=\"http:\/\/paizo.com\/pathfinderRPG\/prd\/coreRulebook\/magicItems\/weapons.html#thundering\">thundering <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/paizo.com\/pathfinderRPG\/prd\/coreRulebook\/magicItems\/weapons.html#weapons-shocking-burst\">shocking burst<\/a> to the scythe, so it will literally crit like a thunderbolt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TRIALI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Female Human Ranger 5\/ Alchemist 2<br \/>\nN Medium humanoid (human)<br \/>\nInit +2; Senses Perception +11<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEFENSE<\/strong><br \/>\nAC 21, touch 13, flat-footed 21 (+7 Armor, +2 DEX, +1 deflect +1 natural)<br \/>\nhp 56 (10 + 6d8+20)<br \/>\nFort +11, Ref +11, Will +6 ( +2 Will vs. divine spells)<\/p>\n<p><strong>OFFENSE<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Speed<\/strong> 30 ft.<br \/>\n<strong>Melee<\/strong> +1 kukri +11 1d4+3 (18-20\/x2) +1 scythe +11\/+6 2d4+8 (x4)<br \/>\n<strong>Ranged<\/strong> MW composite longbow +8 1d8 (x3)<br \/>\n<strong>Special Attacks<\/strong> favored enemy (humanoid(human) +4, undead +2)<br \/>\n<em>Alchemist Formulae prepared:<\/em><br \/>\n1.
