Chasing the Sunset is a West Marches-style exploration game using Fellowship 2nd Edition‘s Horizon rules.
The fellowship: Dryden of Conwall the Collector/Hunter, Averiela the Elf/Elven Elite, Markus the Squire, Pierre Jardiner the Harbinger
Last time, the Fellowship discovered that a monster is smashing up the Moon. Averiela planned a magical device to trap it, and the Fellowship secured rare materials to build it.
This time, Averiela builds her trap and the Fellowship goes to the Moon to use it.
GM note: Let’s recall how Averiela’s move works:
- Hand of Silver: You are capable of crafting glorious magical items. It will be expensive and require exotic materials, but it can be done, at great personal cost. When you forge such an item, describe what it looks like, tell us what it does, and then choose two:
- It will be the pinnacle for your craft, and you will never again have the heart to craft anything like it.
- It costs you an emotion, and you will never feel that emotion again.
- You must remove something beautiful from this world, never to be seen again.
- It can never be used by mortal hands, lest great tragedy occur
- If you can accept the costs, you are now the owner of a unique magic item with a suitably powerful and dramatic ability for the cost put into it.
Averiela grows a small box, using the ceramic shell from the Hidden Library, singing and weaving it. She trims the edges with her Starlight Moon-Sword. It’s a small box that grows really large when she sings to it. It takes a little time to activate and will consume whoever is nearby.
The Phoenix Eggs do not hatch. Markus wanted to know everything Averiela was doing, but the questioning was too much, so he went below to stay out of her way. Markus, while a child spending time in the library, read all the stories about Phoenxes. He thought they were so cool, because ultimately, there were no consequences for their foolish actions. Markus wished that were the case for him. He sits with them and told them (through the oven door) all the stories he could remember of the glorious Phoenix adventurers, hoping these Phoenixes will act more like the ones in the stories, next time they hatch.
Averiela presents her magical trap to the Fellowship. Pierre is ready to open Infinite Windows to the Moon.
Pierre: The Moon tried to kill us ten days ago. We don’t just have to worry about the skeleton. The Moon is hostile!
Markus: We need to be ready.
Averiela: Could Watson be a liaison?
Watson has many skills, and talking to his former collegues is one of them.
Pierre: Do we want to send the whole ship through, to be more fearsome?
Dryden: I like the “whole ship” idea.
Averiela: Will our ship work on the Moon in the same way?
Dryden: We should ask Watson!
Watson can provide a hint or clue in any situation for 1 Use, and you can trust their hints to be absolutely true.
Watson walks around the deck and examines the ship.
Watson: The Empire changed it a bunch. The gravity is lower and the air pressure is lower on the Moon. If we go in with the new balloon, it will pull us up rapidly until it pops. Lighter-than-air ship on the Moon? No good. If we deflate and stow that balloon, it wil lbe clumsy.
Markus: We don’t take our ship through.
Pierre: I’m not sure my friendly face will work. I fear the Kobolds are already hostile to me. We helped them fulfill their life-long goal. They should love me!
Dryden: We gave them a new place to live.
Averiela: We were very helpful.
Pierre: The mirror shard is from an outlying area. Dryden, did you steal anything from the Command Center?
Dryden: I went to the dark side of the Moon to make my Shadow Warrior. There is where I picked up some rocks.
Pierre spends 1 Magical Ritual
Pierre opens Infinite Windows
Pierre creates a 2m x 2m window, so the 3m skeleton can’t just run through.
Fortune roll: 1-3, Ohm and the destroyed region are not visible.
The mirrors look different now. They don’t lie flush to the surface. The Kobolds have some system for moving the mirrors to focus their light on a point on the surface.
Dryden: The problem with the Moon is, it has become a mega-weapon destroying entire sections of our world. Right now there’s a large skeleton destroying it.
Pierre: So maybe these problems take care of each other and we didn’t have to come here at all.
Dryden: Or it could become much, much worse? What happens if the Moon is fully destroyed?
The Fellowship heads towards the nearest tower to ride a cable car to the Command Center. Watson says that will take several hours, and there’s a quicker way. There are teleporter terminals around the Moon so quickly access faraway parts of the Moon, like where they are right now. The Fellowship accepts Watson’s suggestion and he guides them through the cable car network until they reach a teleporter terminal.
It’s a red pyramid about the size of a house. Four large batteries provide power. There’s a control panel outside, and inside, there’s a wire fence that marks the volume that will be swapped with the destination when the teleporter is activated. The Fellowship has seen identical pyramids in a cave in the Fairy Forest, and near the Command Center on the Moon. Watson tries to operate it, and it doesn’t work.
Watson: This is weird. The status lights for the other terminals are usually off or green. Now they’re yellow. When I select a terminal, I don’t get the “ready signal”. We can’t teleport it.
The Fellowship wonders if the main terminal at the Command Center is down, but the teleporters are peer-to-peer. Dryden checks the batteries, which have plenty of charge.
Markus (+hope, Dryen’s aid) Look Closely: 7-9 ask 3 questions, find one answer the hard way
- Is something hidden or out-of place?
- Watson’s demonstrates the main power lever, with settings for Off, On, and Ready. But now there’s another state that wasn’t there when Watson left the Moon.
- A logbook is another new addition. The manual has also been updated. Kobolds are great at following the manual! Watson reads it and discovers how the teleport system has changed.
- There’s a new security system to prevent unauthorized people from teleporting in. Before going to “Ready”, you switch between “on” and the new state, which makes the light on the receiver blink in a certain pattern. First you send a certain object, and a note with the code sequence this terminal will use the next time it requests teleportation. The logbook records valid codes for this terminal and the other terminals. Each time a code is updated, the Kobolds add a row to the logbook. They never erase anything. The secret object is not here.
Pierre: We could send the code, then all get in the teleporter and send ourselves instead of the secret object. They’re probably ready for that and will send us back immediately. With Wizardry I can remotely hit the emergency shutdown before they send us back. I already think they don’t like us. Do we want to come in through a teleporter (which is a dead end) and turn the teleporter off? Or do we want to come in dangling along a cable high in the air. Both seem very risky.
Averiela: I’m confused. Who would be operating the other terminal?
Markus: No one was at ours.
Another thing that’s out of place.
Averiela: Maybe we could send a message in lieu of the secret object.
Pierre: What? “This is the Luna Penumbra. Why did you try to kill us?” I’m really hung up on that.
Averiela: Maybe Watson could send a secret codeword.
- What is going on? What do my senses tell me?
- The Moon is covered in giant hexagonal mirrors. They’re all tilted now. In the red pyramid are: Averiela, Dryden, Pierre, Atlas, Doodle, Markus, Will, and Cirrus. Cirrus is looking around in shock. She can’t believe that she’s on the Moon. The nearest tower has quarters for the Kobolds who operate this terminal. Those quarters are empty. The beds and supplies have been removed, indicating that the terminal has been abandoned in an orderly way.
- What will happen if I start pushing buttons?
- Dryden presses too many buttons and the terminal shtus down.
Pierre: I guess we’re taking the cable cars
Dryden: Now Watson, remember the underground cable sections where that one guy was hiding? If the Moon is spherical, can we go through instead of over the surface?
Watson guides the Fellowship under the surface, through the mechanical innards of the Moon.
Dryden (+hope, Pierre’s aid) Overcome 7-9 pay price for a permanent solution
Dryden spends Bear Trap, Explosive Trap, Immobilzing Trap
There’s a section that’s hard to get through. Dryden uses a Bear Trap to keep some cables in place, then forces an entrance with an Explosive Trap, and uses the Immobilization Trap to prevent the entrance from closing again.
Now the Fellowship is in another layer of machinery. Most of the Moon below them is empty space, with only a skeleton of girders holding its shape. Far below, wires converge from all directions to a very bright point at the center of the Moon. That’s the power source of the whole Moon.
Dryden knocks a floor panel loose and sticks his head up into the Command Center. A Kobold is carrying a big stack of supplies and can’t see the floor in front of himself. He’s running right for Dryden!
Dryden: We’ve come back to offer assistance!
Averiela rolls her eyes.
Dryden Overcome 7-9 temporary solution
The Kobold puts a foot out to stop himself when he hears the disembodied voice. His heel lands on the floor, but his toes are over the edge. He’s off-balance.
Pierre uses Wizardry to push on the Kobold’s foot and hold him steady.
Pierre Overcome 6-
He pushes too hard and knocks the Kobold over! Dryden climbs out of the hole and helps the Kobold pick up his things. Kobolds are running around everywhere.
Dryden: We know there’s been some difficulties. Someone has taken control and is using the Moon in different way. We’ve come back to restore it the way it should be.
Rem-Rem III he/him Kobold mechanic
Rem-Rem III: That sounds good. I’ll get Tin-Tin!
Markus: Wait, who’s Tin-Tin? I’ll come with you!
Pierre: Don’t let Markus go alone! Let’s all follow!
Averiela rolls her eyes again.
Dryden, Markus, and Pierre follows the Kobold through the busy halls. There’s a lot of activity everywhere. They go to through Mission Control to the office that overlooks it from a balcony. This is where Junior runs things and keeps the master copies of the manuals. Tin-Tin IV is there, not Junior.
Markus See The World: Once per scene, you may ask one question from the Look Closely list without rolling.
- What is going on here? What do my senses tell me?
- Fortunately, mission control has huge status boards for all the Moon’s systems. It looks like an orderly shutdown of the Moon, except they’re going too fast to be really orderly. Some status displays are red, probably where the monster is. Others are grey, for “shut down”
Rem-Rem III: Tin-Tin, it’s the first heroes! They say they’re here to get things back to normal!
Markus: Hold up, “the first heroes”?
Markus (+Pierre’s aid) Speak Softly 7-9 ask 3 questions, 1 unhelpful answer
Pierre: So what exactly–
Tin-Tin IV: No! You cursed Junior. I’m not talking to you!
Pierre looks away and gestures to Markus.
Markus: What can you tell us about the other heroes?
Tin-Tin IV: It was a big surprise when you showed up and told us that that the Moon wasn’t doing the right thing. We did all those operations to change things. Then you left and some other people showed up. There was a Halfling, a Platyperson (he was usually wearing a sweater, but when he took it off, he was on fire), and scarecrow made out of a lamp-post. Those guys. Super weird. They said, “The Moon isn’t working right. We need to fix it.” We said, “We did fix it.” They said, “No you didn’t. It’s not fixed correctly.” They told us to make some more changes, which we did.
Here’s where it gets complicated. They took our power source and left us to die. We chased them and they left it behind. We got it back. We later found out that their ship brought the skeleton. he was off on the rim. We didn’t notice him for a long time. Then we see Sunpeak collapse and these guys show up again. There’s another colony of Kobolds on the planet. They have an amazing trap hallway to keep intruders out. We were setting up some teleporter security, but they got through it. Buckle, the Platyperson, told us that the last Dragon on earth has been killed by this Ice Witch and we needed to kill her. He wanted to turn the Moon into a weapon by focusing the light. He’s tricky, so we made him implement security on the teleporter, so once he left, he would not be able to come back.
We did a test-fire. He said, “There’s a big vehicle with lots of legs. That’s the Ice Witch. Blast it!” We found it, we blasted it, they left. Everything seemed great. But we realized we weren’t secure yet. To be perfectly secure, we have to destroy the terminal in the Fairy Forest. We used all the mirrors. That was too much. I kinda regret that. That is when the skeleton showed up.
Markus: So the Moon is still a weapon.
Tin-Tin IV: And our teleporter security is still not fool-proof because you’re here.
Dryden: And you just decided to use the weapon on an entire location?
Tin-Tin IV: We were all very surprised. You notice we haven’t done it again.
Markus: Can you un-weapon the Moon?
Tin-Tin IV: We fear that is what the skeleton is doing.
Markus: What will you do now?
Tin-Tin IV: Well, since our wisest leader is unable to access the documentation, and we are unable to stop the monster, we are all going down to the planet. This is our home, and we are giving it up as lost.
Tin-Tin IV glares at Pierre again.
Markus: I think for the good of the world we need to stop the skeleton.
Averiela: Do we? Do we?
Pierre: Tin-Tin, may we confer in this meeting room?
Pierre hurries the Fellowship into another room to speaek privately.
Pierre: Did you notice that story did not include killing us? Why would she lie about that? Are they being nice because they know we can beat them in a close-range fight and they’re waiting to blow us up on the surface again?
Dryden: It was the whole Ice Witch thing. The assumption is that we were the Ice Witch.
Pierre: Because we took the legs! Oh no! These legs have been nothing but trouble. First Rowdy and Vlad conspired against us, now these other people we don’t even know! No, that’s not a conspiracy. They weren’t trying to kill us. So Junior didn’t try to kill me? Oh no!
Pierre realizes that he cursed someone who was not his enemy, and gave him an impossible condition to lift the curse. Junior can’t ruturn the Moon to its previous configuration because am undying skeleton is destroying it!
Pierre: I need to conjure a powerful spell to destory something in my way, and that thing is my own curse!
Averiela stops Pierre.
Averiela: But they destroyed the entire Fairy Forest. They’re getting exactly what they deserve. They killed an entire Unicorn herd!
Dryden: Do we write in the manual: “Under no circumstances can this be weaponized.”?
Pierre: But we want it to be weaponized! We want it to kill Vampires.
Markus: How about: “No weapons aside from the original purpose of the Moon (to attack Vampires) can be added to it”?
Pierre: They were attacking a Vampire.
Now that Pierre doesn’t feel personally targeted, he’s willing to help the Kobolds. Averiela is on Team Skeleton and wants a weapon of mass destruction permanently disabled. The Fellowship remembers the first time they fought this creature, after unintentionally releasing it from an obsidian cell.
- Ohm the Undying: A massive 3-meter skeleton covered in soot and ash. Its strength is unrivaled. It cannot be killed, and this gives it great confidence.
- Big Muscles: The Ohm is a Giant, Melee weapon. Its attacks send you flying out of its way.
- Immortal: This stat cannot be damaged. You cannot roll +Blood to Finish Them against Ohm.
- Overconfidence: Ohm never backs down from any challenges. It will gladly and willingly walk into traps and take blows directly on the chin, confident it cannot kill die.
Dryden: How do we convince the skeleton not to destroy the Moon unless it’s configured into a weapon that will focus power.
Markus: “I bet you can’t…”
Dryden: “I bet you can’t repair everything you’ve broken–”
Markus: “–then keep the Moon functioning as it was meant to function.”
Pierre: So we try to weaponize the skeleton to keep the Kobolds in line?
Markus: It feels like we are handing someone the bucket to keep the water out of the cave.
Pierre: Will we tell Tin-Tin that we will go deal with the skeleton? I’m sure she’s impatient. Look, you can see her through the conference room windows. Oh, she’s back to giving orders for the evacuation
Markus: Alright, Tin-Tin, we’ve got our plan. You can do whatever you want. Evacuate. Don’t evacuate. We’re going to deal with the skeleton. Also, probably you shouldn’t fire this Moon at anyone else.
The big status boards show the most recent area of destruction and the closest cable car that still works. The Fellowship rides out to meet the skeleton. The Kobolds have given up on stopping it or fixing what it breaks. The Fellowship arrives at the last stop and looks out from the tower. There’s a distinct frontier where everything is fine, then everything is smashed. There is only one skeleton and it is working in a methodical pattern.
Ohm: And this is different! This is wrong! Why do things have to be complicated? Why do things have to change?
Ohm jumps up to grab the edge of a tilted mirror, yanks it back to horizontal and smashes it with its fists. It moves on to the next mirror.
Pierre: Dryden, you’re the talkative one.
Dryden: Hey skelly-grow, I bet you can’t keep smashing and tell me why you’re smashing!
Ohm: Human, Human, skinny Dwarf. That’s fine. Elf? Elf. I like that. Alright, you’re acceptable. You make sense. Better than these tiny worthless Dragons everywhere. I was promised that this was a simple place where it wouldn’t be so complicated, wouldn’t be so confusing. Every since I–YOU!
Ohm recognizes the Fellowship.
Ohm: No, I’ll finish this first. I can’t go switching tasks. When I got out, the world wsa very different. There are too many kinds of animals. There were eight types of deer. I tried to fix that. Most of them were too fast for me. Anyway, another little skiny Dwarf, like that one–
Ohm points at Pierre. Pierre is offended, but doesn’t want to draw Ohm’s anger, so he says nothing.
Ohm: –told me I could go away to a place where everything was calm and still. It was lovely for a while. Then the mirrors started moving and those little Dragons swarmed all over. I hate it! That’s why I’m breaking it. And my name is Ohm, not Skelly-grow.
Ohm breaks another mirror in half and throws it to the ground.
Ohm: Done with that. What was I going to do next? Right! You!
Ohm turns on the Fellowship, especially Averiela. One of her arrows stull juts from one of its three eyes.
Ohm: I hold you responsible for hurting me and putting me in this world that is so complicated and confusing!
Ohm grabs Dryden and throws him aside as it rushes towards Averiela. Dryden pulls out his Flying Device, but he’s not used to flying on the Moon and swerves back towards Ohm. Averiela is annoyed and doesn’t know why the Fellowship is even involved in this situation. Using her Elven agility, she slips behind Ohm and stays out of sight and it turns and stomps around.
Averiela Get Away 10+ avoid notice, avoid harm
Averiela Poetry in Motion: pick an extra option when you Get Away: take Cirrus alone
Poor Cirrus. She has no idea what’s happening or how to react.
Markus: So you just want peace and quiet? We can give that to you?
Ohm stops to listen.
Markus: We can put you back in a box!
Ohm: NO!
Ohm charges at Markus. He runs away and Pierre follows.
Markus (+hope, Pierre’s aid) 7-9 avoid harm
Markus stays out of Ohm’s reach and yells.
Markus: OK, no boxes! I have other options!
Ohm will hear other options.
Markus: The dark side of the Moon! They mirrors don’t exist on that side. You can see out into space better because there’s no light. Just go over. You haven’t made it far enough.
Markus Talk Sense (+Sense, explain plan) 7-9 owe a favor
Ohm: Well, it is kind of your fault that I am this strange new world and you did hurt me, but you did release me from my prison and you have given me another chance for peace. My desire for revenge is mostly satisfied. I still want to hit the Elf. I know she’s still here!
Dryden: Can we heal your arrow wound?
Dryden Talk Sense (+Wisdom, appeal to emotions) 6-
Ohm: It will grow back eventually. I still want to hit the Elf.
Dryden is still out of control on his Flying Device. Pierre tries to steady him using Wizardry, the tactic that knocked over the last person tried to help.
Pierre Overcome 7-9 pay a price
Pierre damages Doom
Pierre predicts the motion of the Flying Device and gently levels it out. Now Dryden knows how compensate for the low gravity.
Pierre: Averiela, it’s up to you! We were going to heal its wound, but we could heal yours.
Averiela: No!
Pierre keeps putting himself into situations. Is this bravery?
Pierre: Just a minute. Let me talk some sense into her!
Pierre beckons Averiela to go beneath the surface where ohm can’t see them. Averiela is bored and angry and keeps dancing behind Ohm. She does not join Pierre.
Pierre Changeling: You can take on a solid form, holding it for hours at a time in the shape of anyone you wish to imitate…
Pierre takes the form of Averiela and climbs back to the surface. he hopes that Ohm will look at him and not notice the other Averiela flitting about.
Pierre Keep Them Busy 10+
Ohm: There you are!
Pierre (in Averiela’s voice): This is an affront to my dignity, but I recognize it is for the greater good.
Pierre tries not to cringe as Ohm walks up and punches him, sending him flying. Averiela is grudgingly respectful of his bravery.
Pierre damages Courage
Pierre Changeling: …Taking damage will make you lose your shape immediately.
Pierre learned this trick from Yonne and didn’t remember all the subtleties. A Halfing, not an Elf, goes flying towards some broken mirrors. Averiela returns to being annoyed. Dryden comes flying along with his Elvish vial of water, that can take any shape he commands. He makes the first moon-wave, so Pierre can body-surf above the jagged debris.
Dryden Overcome 6-
There’s not enough water and Pierre lands hard.
Pierre damages Blood
Markus: Ok, Ohm, let me show you where the dark side of the Moon is.
Ohm is mad at the Fellowship for breaking the deal. It’s not listening to Markus, but it is chasing him. Markus heads for the cable car tower.
Markus Get Away 6-
Ohm is much faster than Markus. It catches up as kicks him, sending him flying.
Markus damages Grace
Pierre drinks his healing elixir instead of trying to use Wizardry again.
Pierre heals Blood
As angry as she is at the whole situation, will not let Markus come to harm, because he’s young and foolish.
Averiela Overcome 10+
Averiela was dancing behind Ohm as this happens. As Ohm kicks, Averiela runs forward into the space made by its foot rising. She catches up with Markus and redirects him into a hard but not harmful landing.
Pierre Serenity: When you walk without intending or causing harm, nothing will harm you
Pierre calmly walks towards the cable car tower and hopes Ohm doesn’t wreck it before he gets there. Pierre’s legs are much shorter than Ohm’s.
Markus: The Kobolds brought it on themselves by destroying the Fairy Forest and turning the Moon into a weapon. A more destructive weapon. Let’s leave them to it.
Dryden finds a body-sizes mirror shard and flies above Averiela so the two mirrors will create many images of Averiela and confuse Ohm.
Dryden Keep Them Busy 6-
Ohm: Mirror shards? I can do that too!
Ohm throws a mirror shard at Dryden and keeps chasing Averiela.
Dryden On Mirror’s Edge: gain 2 Speed
GM note: Literally!
Dryden spends 1 Speed: Avoid an enemy attack and keep going
Dryden spends 1 Speed: Get up somewhere out of reach or out of sight.
Dryden jumps over the flying mirror shard and finds his way up the tower. All this time, Cirrus has been trying to fly, but the unfamiliar conditions on the Moon take time to understand. Now she’s got it.
Cirrus: Prince, with me!
Cirrus Uplifting Command: Nearby allies gain flight.
Cirrus and Markus join Dryden and Pierre in the cable car. Pierre sends a thought bubble.
Pierre Deliver a message through mysterious means.
Pierre: Averiela, get over here so we can leave!
Averiela: Whisper on the Wind: Send a message to someone you have a Bond with. They will hear it whispered in their ear moments after you send it,
Averiela: Just go. I can catch up.
Pierre: I believe her. Any objections?
The Fellowship starts the cable car.
Averiela Get Away 10+ avoid harm, avoid notice.
Averiela gets behind Ohm and ducks behind some debris so he loses track of her, then runs after the cable car.
Dryden: I feel like we should leave it some directions. If it destroys the whole Moon, it’ll be flung into space, which is never constant.
Markus: Can you send it a thought bubble? “If you destroy the power core at the center of the Moon, you will be thrown into chaos.”
Pierre: I can. It told me its name. But I’m not going to tell it about the one thing that will completely destroy the thing it’s trying to destroy.
Pierre sends a series of thought bubbles. Each one can only hold one breath.
Pierre: Ohm, despite our misunderstandings, we still wish peace for you. Perhaps you could destroy most of the mirrors out to your local horizon. But leave a few mirrors. If they move, the Kobolds are changing the Moon again, and you should keep destroying it. Finally, Ohm, do not destroy the entire moon. You will either plummet to the planet below (which is unacceptable) or be flung into unpredictable deep space. Really sorry about tricking you. I hope you find peace.
As they ride on the cable car, the Fellowship wonders what to do next.
Dryden: We either send a message via thought bubble to Tin-Tin, or find the nearest Kobold running along and explain that if they re-focus the mirrors, Ohm will destroy utterly everything.
Markus: And we head back to Infinite Windows.
Pierre: I’m sending lots of messages today. Averiela, you also have long-distance communication. Do you want to talk to Tin-Tin?
Averiela: No.
Pierre is conflicted about cursing Junior, since Junior didn’t intentionally try to kill him. Junior was cursed before the Fairy Forest was destroyed, so he probably didn’t give that order, but he did turn the Moon into a super-weapon. For the third time. A super-weapon that attacks people that Pierre cares about. After intense internal deliberation, Pierre isn’t brave enough to admit a mistake and try to fix it. He’ll feel bad about it. He sends a thought bubble to Tin-Tin IV:
Pierre: Tin-Tin IV, we have limited the skeleton’s destruction. However, focusing the mirrors into a weapon will rekindle its wrath, and I don’t know if it will ever stop. Do not focus mirrors again.
The Fellowship leaves the Moon and returns to the Luna Penumbra. Cirrus has questions!
Cirrus: OK, you were targetted by the Moon, but you know the people on–There are people on the Moon? You didn’t tell us any of this!
Dryden: You gave us reason to tell the Empire all this because…?
Cirrus: We rebuilt your ship. We had people there to defend you within minutes! We protected you from those Phoenixes.
Markus: The Phoenixes weren’t causing any danger to us, and you re-built our ship with spy qeuipment.
Cirrus: Well, of course I’m going to send reports home about your safety and whatever.
Markus: Things like we travelled to the Moon and know people on it?
Cirrus realizes that she’s in dangerous territory.
Markus: Here’s the deal. You saw our window that we can travel through. We can travel lots of places, like, for example, your brother’s quarters at the quarry.
Cirrus: Are you threatening him?
Markus: Rescuing him?
This is not where Cirrus thought this conversation was going.
Cirrus: Please continue.
Markus: We actually kind of like you. Not that you’ve made it easy.
Markus Talk Sense (+Wisdom, appeal to emotions) 7-9 owe a favor
Cirrus hasn’t had that much encouragement in maybe a year.
Cirrus: As long as I say that you’re safe, I don’t have to put all the details in. I can be discreet.
Markus: Now that we’ve dealt with the Moon, we can focus our energy on rescuing your brother. And then we have to fix the sensors on the ship.
Dryden gives Pierre a nice magical soup. Pierre still has some spices from when he cooked for Edna. He moves back the spices for rocks nad minerals and adds some of the spices for actual food. It’s a very pleasant meal.
Pierre heals Doom
They wait until shortly before dawn, so even far to the west at Morgan’s work camp in the Empire, it will be night. Dryden gives Pierre the sliver from the door of Morgan’s room. Pierre has spent his rituals, so he has to open Infinite Windows the old-fashioned, dangerous way.
Pierre open Infinite Windows 7-9 open to a safe location, portal is not stable, lose the object.
Pierre: Better be quick!
PIerre pulls the window open, revealing Morgan asleep in his room. Averiela goes through. She doesn’t bother to wake him. She just grabs him and the basket where he secretly grows plants.
Averiela Get Away 7-9 avoid harm, bring Morgan along
Someone notices the noise, but the window is already closing on Pierre. He’s trying to hld it open with his hands, then transfers the force to Wizardry and pulls his fingers clear. The window closes at the same rate because it’s still resisted by Pierre’s strength, but his fingers aren’t at risk.
Pierre Overcome 7-9 pay a price
Pierre damages Wisdom
Morgan has been yanked out of bed and is somewhere unfamliar surrounded by strangers. Cirrus grabs him and hugs him in one motion that lifts them both off the ground.
Cirrus Uplifting Command: Nearby allies gain flight.
Morgan has never been outside of the Empire before, but doesn’t take much convincing that having adventures with his sister is better than working at a labor camp.
END-OF-SESSION MOVE
- Did we thoroughly explore a new location?
- NO
- Did anyone find what they were seeking?
- Pierre is having some character growth, but he wasn’t looking for it.
- They did provide a powerful incentive to not use the Moon as a beam weapon, so Dryden is keeping dangerous things away from those that would abuse them. YES
- Did they discover something new about the world and its people?
- They briefly met Ohm before, but now they know its personality. They also learned how the Moon became a beam weapon. YES.
